Combat Squad

There's been a number of first-person shooters released for Android over the past year, so it's important for new releases to bring something new to the table to differentiate from the rest of the pack.

Combat Squad is a squad-based tactical shooter that lets you control a team of five agents in online multiplayer battles. There's a storyline that explains that these agents have all been implanted with a control chip that allows the commander to take over their actions — the means for justifying the main game mechanic that allows you to switch between controlling different agents on your team.

Before each match, you're able to set the strategy for your squad, sending them down specific lanes of the map. The AI will work its way towards the enemy and engage automatically until you dive into them and take over the action yourself. It works surprisingly well and helps to keep you in the action even when you die since you can just bounce over to another fighter.

You're able to recruit, upgrade, and customize your team using coins and diamonds (because of course there's in-game currency to manage), and there's a number of offers for in-app purchases, but overall you can probably ignore them and still have a great time playing Combat Squad. The maps offer good variety and there are seven different multiplayer modes to choose from. Check out Combat Squad for free from the Google Play Store!

Motosport Manager Mobile 2

Build and manage your own motorsport team in Motosport Manager Mobile 2 which landed on the Google Play Store this week and is easily the best racing simulator you'll find for Android.

You're able to control nearly every aspect of your team, from hiring engineers, drivers, and pit mechanics, locking down new sponsorships, upgrading your HQ facilities, and of course upgrading and rebuilding your race cars. Once it's time to hit the track, you manage your driver's performance and have to be spot on with managing tire wear, fuel, and pit stops if you want to lead your team to victory. It's really deep and while you're not directly controlling the action on the track it's still a really deep and engaging game to dive into.

If you're a huge fan of F1 racing this is an absolute must-play. it's a highly polished strategy game that's well worth its premium price tag.

Beat Fever: Music Tap Rhythm Game

Remember Amplitude or Frequency from way back in the PlayStation 2 days? Those trend-setting music games set the path for the Guitar Hero and Rock Band music games that would follow.

Beat Fever is a nod back to those classic music games, featuring some of the biggest music hits from popular artists like Pitbull, Sia, MGMT, Macklemore, and more! The gameplay is pretty familiar to other music games you've played, where you follow the beat and tap the notes as they fall down the screen. You don't get to play the whole song, which is either a decision to make the game quicker to pick up and play or an issue with acquiring the full rights to all these tracks, but the pace of the game is pretty good and there's a decent challenge to be had here.

This is a free-to-play game, so expect to be bombarded with offers for booster packs and other things to help you along. There's a single player mode that helps you to upgrade your setup and discover new music and a multiplayer mode for challenging other players to battles.
